The first in-person Acadia alumni event since the advent of the pandemic took place on July 23, 2021 when participants teed off at the 39th Annual Acadia Alumni Golf Tournament at KenWo Golf Club in New Minas, N.S. There was certainly a festive mood as more than 120 golfers took to the course to celebrate our alumni community.
The Acadia Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Dr. Juan Carlos López is the recipient of this year’s Acadia Alumni Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. López has taught biology at #AcadiaU in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science since 2014 and has made a dramatic and lasting impact that resonates deeply throughout the department and with his students.
The songs of the 1960s are an evocative soundtrack to the memories of many Acadia alumni, but it was more than music that made one sock hop special for David (’65) and Ruth Anne (’66) Nicholson.
Acadia University’s alumni magazine, the Bulletin, has earned the 2021 Silver Prix D'Excellence Award in the Best Photograph category from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE).
Mabel Young (’63) has devoted her life to music and supporting students’ dreams. As a new Acadia music student in 1960, she was delighted that piano instruction would be included in her tuition. Later, a fellow student in her residence introduced her to playing the organ, which became a lifelong passion. Now retired from a long and rewarding career as a counsellor and educator, Mabel continues to encourage students.
The Acadia Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Guy Harrison-Murray is the 2021 recipient of The Athenaeum and Acadia Alumni Student of the Year Award.
