When Terry (’65) and Heather Hennigar’s daughter, Crystal, passed away from cancer in 2014, the couple wanted to do something meaningful in her honour.
If anyone at Acadia epitomizes the term, ‘university service’, it’s Cheryl. Currently Administrative Manager, Dean of Arts, Cheryl has devoted herself to the University for more than 40 years in a variety of different positions and capacities, greeting the public, alumni, students, faculty and staff with consistent kindness and professionalism.
In the wake of the recent George Floyd killing in Minneapolis, Acadia alumnus and Campaign for Acadia Cabinet Member Clive Anderson (’89) was compelled to work through his own feelings of anger, frustration, despair, and defiance about racial injustice toward blacks, especially in the United States, and did so in the form of poetry.
He wrote numerous poem, 24 of which he has collected into a volume entitled Uprising!, with each poem accompanied by a unique visual exploring and amplifying the meaning of its subject matter.
Dr. Rod Morrison, Vice-President, Advancement and Donalda MacBeath (’75), President, Acadia Alumni Association, recently announced that Oonagh Proudfoot (’93, ’06) has been appointed Executive Director, Alumni Affairs.
A modern-day pioneer in cancer research is honouring a similar pioneer from the last century. Allen Eaves (’62) is funding the creation of a larger-than-life bronze portrait of Charles Huggins, who graduated from Acadia in 1920.
