Acadia alumni put on a great show during Nova Scotia Music Week

For the first time in the event’s history, Nova Scotia Music Week (NSMW) took place in Wolfville from November 7-10, 2024, with many members of the Acadia alumni community earning accolades, awards and recognition.

Celebrating its 27th year, NSMW and Music Nova Scotia brought together artists, fans, and music industry representatives from across Nova Scotia and around the globe to experience the best talent the province has to offer.

Many Acadia School of Music alumni were nominated for awards during the week, including: Avery Dakin-Clarke (’18), India Gailey (’17), Freya Milliken (’23), Donna Rhodenizer (’83, ’90) and Andy Duinker, Mat Elliott (’16), Kate Hennessey (’23), Alex Meade (’08, who won the Industry Recording Sector Award), Edward Enman (’09), and David Potvin (’12).

Performers included many of the above plus Jennifer King (’91), Reuben Gilbert (’24), Caleb Vallelly (’24), Alec Bloch (’19, ’23), and Michael Arbou (’13). Daniel McFadyen (’18), who won in three categories – Music Video of the Year: ‘Sunshine’, directed by Griffin O’Toole; Folk/Roots Recording of the Year; and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year – also had three current School of Music students play with him as a mini horn section in his performance at the awards brunch on November 10 in the Sheldon L.
