Henderson Jersey Tour rolls onto Acadia campus

The Henderson Jersey Homecoming Tour was at Acadia Arena in Wolfville on Nov. 9, 2011, attracting hockey fans of every stripe to share in a truly iconic piece of Canadian hockey history. The free exhibit is on a year-long tour to allow Canadians to experience the pride, excitement and spirit of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union. It showcases memorabilia from that epic hockey showdown, including the jersey worn by Paul Henderson when he scored his historic, series-winning goal. Henderson had given the jersey to Team Canada trainer Joe Sgro once the series ended. It was later sold to a Canadian collector, who then sold it to an unidentified American collector. In June 2010, however, the jersey resurfaced on the auction block and was purchased by Canadian businessman Mitchell Goldhar, who repatriated it and wanted to share it with Canadians. Pictured is Bill Burns, whose son Darren (’95) coaches the Acadia hockey Axemen, with grandson Brady Burns (9) and Aidan Clarke (8) in front of a display featuring Henderson’s gloves, a signed stick and autographed puck.
