New Student Arrival Information

Pre-Departure Guide

Welcome! We encourage all new students to read our How to Apply checklist to prepare for the beginning of their studies.

Arriving at Acadia

Please look at the table below for arrival dates of upcoming EAP terms.  These dates are important when you are booking your airline tickets. We cannot accommodate students who arrive before the arrival date, so please do not buy a ticket which arrives before the date below. If you have any questions, please ask us before you book your ticket. If you have already booked your ticket before these dates, please contact us as soon as possible and we will help you to make arrangements.

Please try to arrive as close to the listed arrival date as possible. If you arrive more than 5 days after the start of the program, you may be refused entry into classes.

Free Airport Pick-up

Free airport pick-up will be offered for new EAP students arriving on the free airport pick-up dates. Woods Limousine will pick up students at Halifax Stanfield International Airport between midnight (0000 hours) of the pickup date and midnight (0000 hours) of the following day. Please email us with your flight information at least 7 days before the pick-up date so we can schedule a time for you.

Orientation Schedule

Please meet in Fountain Commons Room 138 for the beginning of orientation.

Day 1 Wednesday
9:00 AM Welcome to EAP
Forms, Insurance, Contracts, Student Handbook
10:00 AM

Writing and Speaking Test
Please bring your passport, laptop, earphones, and any official language test scores you have (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS)

11:15 AM Campus Tour: a tour around Acadia University
12:00 PM Lunch (provided)
12:45 PM Acadia EAP Placement Test (computer test)

 

Day 2 Thursday
1:00 PM — 4:00 PM Shopping and sightseeing of local area: meet at the Student Union Building

 

Day 3 Friday
10:30 AM Culture Shock presentation
11:30 AM A tour around Wolfville
12:30 PM Lunch at Meal Hall (optional)

Your class schedule will be emailed to you on Friday. Over the weekend, explore and enjoy Wolfville!

Planning to Stay in Residence

If you plan to live in residence on campus at Acadia University, you should apply now. If you have any problems with the residence application, please contact the Department of Residence Life by email. Please include your complete name and Acadia ID number in your email.
