940 Caledonia Film Screening and Panel Discussion
November 19, 2024 (6:00 pm)
Location: K.C. Irving Environmental Centre: Auditorium
The Department of Sociology presents a screening of the film 940 Caledonia on November 19th at 6pm in the KCIC Auditorium. No admission fee! Food and drinks will be provided.
940 Caledonia follows Tina Dawson, a middle-aged woman who, despite becoming homeless for the first time during the pandemic, steps up to lead when her encampment floods in a city park. The government relocates the unhoused to a parking lot, and residents find shelter in a self-managed and supported site at 940 Caledonia. Despite facing a gale-force windstorm and an arctic vortex, the group survives the winter, and the experience profoundly changes Tina’s life.
The event is open to everyone and has been made possible with the support of Sociology, the office of the President, Law and Society, and the office of the Dean of Arts.
