Please review your responsibilities, and those of your supervisor in the Graduate Thesis Supervision document. When you are getting ready to write your thesis, you should consult the guidelines (.docx).
Key Steps
- Read the instructions
As you begin your thesis writing, please consult the Instructions For the Preparation and Presentation of Master's Theses (.docx) document to ensure you are formatting your document according to the guidelines. - Understand the role of the examiner
The Supervisor/Graduate Coordinator will identify a suitable external examiner. PLEASE NOTE: Students are not permitted to have contact with the external examiner prior to the defence date. For more detailed information, please refer to the Instructions For the Preparation and Presentation of Master's Theses (.docx) and Thesis Defence Responsibilities documents. - Send your thesis before your defence
Submit an electronic copy of your thesis by email to the Graduate Studies Officer along with the signed Request for Master's Thesis Defence form (.docx) four (4) weeks prior to the confirmed defence date. - Prepare to defend your thesis
Read our How to Prepare for Your Thesis Defence guide (.docx) for more information about the format of the thesis defence and technology options. - Review the checklist before you send your final thesis
As you prepare your final thesis for submission, please refer to the Student Check List (.docx) - Complete your thesis declaration with your supervisor
You and your supervisor will sign the Thesis Declaration form (.docx) after all revisions have been made. - Send your thesis
You will upload your final thesis (after defence and revisions), and the signed Thesis Declaration form, to the Library website. IMPORTANT NOTE: Upon submission, your thesis sits in a queue to be available to the public at a later date through the Library website. The Library does an upload of theses in January and June of each year. Therefore, if you graduate in October, your thesis will not be available for viewing until January. If you graduate in May, your thesis will be available for viewing in June.
Templates
Templates may be provided by your Department/School or The Learning Technologies Centre, but it is your responsibility to ensure that your thesis conforms to the formatting required by Graduate Studies as outlined in the Instructions for the Preparation and Presentation of Master's Theses document.
- Forms pertaining to theses defences can be found under the forms section of our website.
- If you're looking to view a previous thesis, you can do so search from the main Scholars page by either the student name or thesis title. You can also get the full list of digital theses then use the facets on the side to filter down.
If you have any questions, please direct them to the Graduate Studies Officer.
