Apply to Residence

Acadia guarantees first-year students a room in residence. If you are planning to live in residence, and have been offered admission to Acadia, please complete the following steps as soon as possible.

Once you have completed your residence application, please note room selection will take place in May. We assign time slots for room selection in the order we receive your completed residence application and non-refundable room deposit.

The sooner we receive your residence application and deposit, the better your chances of getting your preferred residence building and room of choice!

Step 1: Accept your offer of admission and pay your confirmation deposit. You will find links to do this on your Application Status Page.

Step 2: Activate your Acadia Network account. Once your admission has been processed, there will be a link in your "My Next Steps" tab of your Application Status Page to set your initial password.

Step 3: Once you have activated your Acadia Network Account, a link to the Residence Application will be in your "My Next Steps" tab of your Application Status Page. Click on the link to your Student Residence Portal and use your Acadia Network account to log in to complete your residence application. Please note that it may take up to 48 hours for your Acadia Network Account to become activated to allow you to log into the Student Residence Portal.

Step 4: Pay your $200 (CDN) non-refundable residence room deposit to make your application complete.

Step-by-Step Guide: Application and Room Selection

Logging In
  1. Starting at your Application Status Page, click the Residence Application link in the Enrolment Checklist section.
  2. You will arrive at the main page – click on LOGIN in the top-right hand corner
  3. Click on the blue “ACADIAU – STUDENT SSO LOGIN” button.
  4. You will be prompted to log in. Use the Acadia Network Account and password you recently set. If you are having trouble logging in to the portal above, and it has been at least 48 hours since you created your Acadia Network Account, we recommend trying to use a laptop or computer instead of your phone. It is also recommended that you use Google Chrome browser in an Incognito window.
  5. Click on the “Residence Application”.
How to Apply

If you have not yet completed the residence application, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Click “APPLY” for the Academic Year 2025-2026. If you have already started or completed an application, click “CONTINUE”.
  2. Review your personal details – if they are incorrect or incomplete, please contact Residence Life as soon as possible so we can update your information.

If you require medical accommodations for any reason, please reach out to Accessible Learning (accessible.learning@acadiau.ca) to discuss their intake application as soon as possible. In the meantime, continue with your residence application in your Student Residence Portal
  3. List your top 3 Residence choices. Please note that when room selection occurs in May, you will be able to select a room from any of our residence buildings and you will not be limited to your top 3 choices as stated in your application.
  4. Complete your roommate profile. This is recommended for everyone to complete, even if you are looking to book a single room. If you were not able to get a single room, this provides us with information to ensure you have a suitable match for a roommate, based on your compatibility from the answers you provided.
  5. Type in your Web Screen Name, this is typically the same as your name, as it will be what others see if they search for you in the residence portal. Make sure to check off “Show in search results”, or no one will be able to find you! This is especially important if you already have a specific roommate in mind.
  6. Select your meal plan. Please note that everyone who lives on campus is required to have a meal plan. If you wish to change it at any time, you can email Residence Life and we can change it for you.
  7. Once you have chosen a meal plan, click “Save and Continue”.
  8. The next step will take you to the Acadia University Student Residence Agreement. Once you have read through the agreement, you can select Agree to the terms and conditions to continue with the application by typing in your 9-digit student number (e.g., 400123456).
  9. Complete the $200.00 (CAD) non-refundable room deposit payment. This deposit is applied to your first semester residence fees. Your Residence deposit can be paid online via any major credit card. For more information, visit our How to Pay page.
  10. After paying your residence deposit, all you need to do is submit your application and you are all done until it is time to choose your room in May!

It is important to note that all correspondence from residence life will be sent to your Acadia email account. This includes all information regarding your time slot for room selection in May. Please be sure to check your Acadia email to stay up-to-date on all information.

Roommate Requests

Roommate Groups will open in January 2025. A Roommate Group will allow you to form a group with other prospective students, if you are interested in living with a roommate. If you do not wish to have a roommate, you do not need to form any groups.

Please note that student rooms are not co-ed, so males cannot live in double rooms or suites with females and vice versa.

If you already know of a friend that you wish to be a roommate with, and you have both completed your residence applications, you can search for them in the portal to create a roommate group by searching for their Web Screen Name.

Ways to search for a roommate

  1. Roommates can be searched by compatibility (Suggest Roommates),
  2. By specific answers to the roommate matching profile (Search for Roommates by Profiles)
  3. By their age, Web Screen Name, and Roommate Profile (Search for Roommates by Details).

When searching for roommates by Profiles or by Details, a box can be checked to invite that person into your group. The invitation to the roommate group will be sent to that person’s email.

Room Selection

In the month of May, a timeslot will be sent to your Acadia email letting you know when you will be able to access the General Room Selection in your Student Residence Portal. Your timeslot is active either at 9:00 AM or 1:00 PM on the day specified in your email. Once your timeslot is open, you will have access to room selection until June 1, 2025. If you miss your specific timeslot, you are still able to log into the portal and select your room. If you have not selected a room by June 1, please contact Residence Life so that you can be assigned a room. If you have not contacted Residence Life by late July, you will be assigned a room based on your indicated preferences.

  1. Log into your Student Residence Portal
  2. Select General Room Selection and choose your preferred residence building you wish to live in. Once you have selected your residence building, you will be brought to a room list. From here you will have three options (based on availability) a single room, a singe in suite, or a double room. The options will be based on availability at the time of your selection and can vary according to specific buildings.
  3. Once you have selected your room type, assign yourself to a bed by choosing “Add to Cart”.
  4. Confirm your choice at the checkout and click “Save and Continue” to complete the checkout process.

For further explanation, we've outlined the steps again below based on each room type:

Choosing a single room

  1. Start by choosing a residence. This will bring you to a page listing all available rooms, sorted by residence and room type. You can choose any single room type!
  2. Rooms will not be able to be properly assigned if you are in a group, so make sure to leave your roommate group if you decide you want a single room.
  3. Assign yourself to a bed by choosing “add to cart”.
  4. Confirm your choice at the checkout and click save and continue.

Choosing a single room in a suite

  1. Start by choosing a residence. This will bring you to a page listing all available rooms, sorted by residence and room type.
  2. To choose a suite room, you can either choose one room if you are not in a roommate group and assign yourself OR choose as many suite rooms as you have group members and assign them to each room.

Assign yourself to a suite by choosing “add to cart” and then clicking save and continue.
  3. On the next page you will assign yourself (and your roommates to beds in the suite).
  4. Once you are sure of your choices click “Assign Beds”. This will bring you to the confirmation page.
  5. Double-check your choices and then click “Save and Continue” to complete the checkout process.

Choosing a double room

  1. Start by choosing a residence. This will bring you to a page listing all available rooms, sorted by residence and room type.
  2. To choose a double room, you can either choose a room if you are not in a roommate group and assign yourself OR choose a room for you and your roommate and assign both of you to each room.
  3. Assign yourself (and your roommate) to a bed by choosing “add to cart”.
  4. On the next page you will assign yourself a bed in the double room.
  5. Once you are sure of your choices click “Assign Beds”. This will bring you to the confirmation page.
  6. Double-check your choices and then click “Save and Continue” to complete the checkout process.

It is important to note that you cannot change your booking once you have confirmed a room. If you change your mind, please contact Residence Life and we can either move you into another room or place you on a waitlist for your desired room if it is not currently available.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at residencelife@acadiau.ca or (902) 585-1417.
