Business Technology Management

An examination of the general principles of information technology and current technologies. Emphasis is on managing technology, and the government's effort to develop standards and current industry policies. The management of technology is explored as a means of improving management and practice and creating strategic competitive advantage. The restructuring of organizations to accommodate these new technologies is also explored.

In this course, you'll grow your understanding of the opportunities and challenges that organizations face in managing the development, implementation and use of information systems and related technologies.

Topics include:

  • The complexity of information systems, and the interrelationship between technology and managerial challenges
  • Types of information systems, the roles they serve within the management and organizational environment, and their technological foundations
  • IT-enabled process innovation, new business models, and the organizational challenges of information systems

After completing the course, you'll develop perspectives on business technology systems and their role in the business environment, and competency in understanding the various types of information systems.
