Gender and Sexuality in Europe to 1789
A study of the role of gender from the early civilizations to 1789. This course examines gender relations and societal expectations of women and men from the earliest civilizations to 1789.

In this course, you'll explore women's and men's roles in societies from the earliest civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Israel to the 18th century.
Topics include:
- The impact of religion, war, and political movements on gender roles
- The complex and changing definitions of gender
- Gender relations and their importance
In addition to the factual knowledge you acquire, you'll build your skills in critical thinking and historical interpretation. You'll learn how to link cultural representations to the underlying historical realities that helped shape them.
