Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Disability Sport

The course provides various aspects of the theory of social constructionism as it relates to disability and sport. It provides an insight into the historical development of disability sport both nationally and internationally, and will identify sport governing bodies responsible for Paralympic, Special Olympics, and other sport movements. It explores in-service delivery of sport models in school and community.

Topics include:

  • Describe various aspects of the theory of social constructionism as it relates to disability and sport
  • Provide insight into the historical development of disability sport both nationally and internationally
  • Identify governing sport bodies at national and international levels responsible for Paralympics, Special Olympics, Deafalympics and other disability sport movements
  • Define sport classification assessment theory and its principles Describe multiple sports sanctioned by each organization, classification systems, equipment modifications, adapted rules, and sport medicine considerations
  • Explain in-service delivery of sport models, in both school and community settings, integrated and non-integrated and to discuss the role and scope of the delivery
