Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Astronomy 1 - Observational Methods and Solar System

This course is the first part of a general introduction to astronomy. It emphasizes the night sky and objects in our solar system. The instructor discusses space science, telescopes, cameras and other instruments used in the study of astronomy. Observation sessions are included.

 None.
Antirequisites: Credit cannot be obtained for both PHYS 1513 and IDST 1703. PHYS 1513 may not be offered as a credit for a Physics major.

The major goals of the course are to expand horizons, apply the scientific method, teach critical and logical thinking, and practice problem-solving skills. You are expected to develop the ability to search for, verify, interpret, and communicate scientific information. Special attention will be paid to overcoming "math phobia" and developing long-term interest in science.
