Campus Update – June 11, 2020 – Revised Fall 2020 Start Date

Dear Acadia Students,

We are still working on many of the details, but we are excited by our plans to welcome you to campus in September. We are discussing our plans with health and safety experts to ensure all the necessary precautions are put in place. We are equally committed to making the experience as positive as possible for those who will be unable to join us in person. We are using the information you provided to us through the recent student survey to help inform our way forward.

The survey results indicated the majority of you are in favour of pushing the start of the academic term to accommodate for both necessary self-isolation measures in addition to Acadia offering preparatory programming aimed at helping you succeed in the transition to our new normal.  The survey also showed that many of you are concerned about your ability to succeed within a virtual/hybrid model, from learning and retention to time management and study habits.

With these facts in mind, Acadia has decided to start classes on September 21st. This will allow for some extra time after your arrival in Wolfville to participate in the following preparations:

  • introduction and implementation of new academic support systems (inclusive of technology, improved access, and resources designed to help you succeed);
  • orientation, education, and training of COVID-19 related health & safety measures and protocols; and,
  • 14-day self-isolation, if necessary.

We are looking forward to presenting further details pertaining to our preferred Fall approach at the end of June, with a continued focus on the health and safety of our community, but in the meantime, you can review an updated list of key dates for the fall semester online by visiting the Acadia Registrar’s Office.

Our objective is to keep you safe, to help you succeed academically, and to give you the experience you deserve. This will only be possible if we all work together, as we embrace a new way forward.

Stay well and stay healthy,

Dr. Dale Keefe
Provost and Vice-President Academic
