Who is the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program for?
- Students who have conditional acceptance to an Acadia University degree program but do not yet meet the language requirements
- English Language learners who want to improve their academic language skills in an intensive program
What does the EAP program include?
Each EAP term consists of 23 hours of study per week. Class sizes are small (typically 10-15 students) and you will receive individual attention and support from your instructors. Your classes will include:
- Intensive instruction in Listening and Speaking including presentation, discussion, lecture and note-taking skills.
- Intensive instruction in Reading and Writing including essay and report writing, reading strategies, critical thinking, and research skills.
- Concentrated study in specific areas including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, communication skills, and technical English.
What EAP level will I be placed in?
You will write the Acadia placement test on the first day of term to determine your EAP level. If you have recently taken a TOEFL, IELTS, or DET test, you do not have to take our placement test. You can go directly into your appropriate level based on your score. If you do not meet the minimum proficiency required for our EAP program, you will be refered to one of our partner institutions for a general English program.

University Bridging Program
In the final level of EAP, you will enter the Bridging program. The Bridging Program helps you prepare for university by combining full-time EAP study with study in a 3 credit-hour academic credit course. This credit course can be used towards completion of any undergraduate degree.
After completing the Bridging Program, you will be allowed to begin full-time study in your academic program without the need to write an official language proficiency test. Tuition for the Bridging Program includes both the EAP support courses and the academic credit course.

Culture Class
In Culture Class, you'll enjoy the experience of being a Canadian on the East Coast. A Culture Class group activity could be a long walk to the ocean, a visit to a museum, a barbecue on the beach, picking apples on a farm, and much more.
There's no better way to improve your English than by using your skills in the real world, and Culture Class will help you have fun and practice English outside the classroom. Culture Class sessions are held most Fridays during each EAP term.

Online Option
In the Acadia University Virtual-EAP (V-EAP) program, you can begin your studies from home. You do not need a study permit, you can save on the costs of travel and accommodations, and you can complete the classes from the comfort of your own home!
