Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. Farris-Kierstead Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Arts, Current 3rd year

A scholarship in the amount of $240 was endowed by the late Mrs. Evlyn Fenwick Farris, Class of 1898, and honorary LL.D. of this University. It is to be awarded to a meritorious third-year student in Arts.

Florence B. Mosher Memorial Scholarship

The Florence B. Mosher Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to one or more entering student(s) studying in the Faculty of Arts.

This award was established in 2009, by the late Dr. Marial Mosher in memory of her mother, Florence (Larder) Mosher.

Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship In Business

The Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship in Business is awarded annually to a returning student in the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program on recommendation of the School of Business. This scholarship is made possible through a bequest in 1998 from the late Florence M. Bishop (BA 1934) of Hantsport, Nova Scotia and a donation in 2019 by Dr. Roy Bishop of Avonport, Nova Scotia (CAS 1959, BScH 1961).

The Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship in Physics is awarded annually to a returning student in the Bachelor of Science (Physics) degree program on recommendation of the Physics Department. This scholarship is made possible through a bequest in 1998 from the late Florence M. Flt. Sgt. Harold T. McGrath Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Biology, Pre-Med, Current 4th year

Awarded annually to a deserving and superior premedical student who plans to enter a School of Medicine. The scholarship cannot be held for more than one year. It was endowed in 1989 through the Estate of Dr. J. P. McGrath (D.C.L. Acadia, 1972).

Frances McNally Scholarship in Nutrition

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Nutrition, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Graduate

The Frances McNally Scholarship in Nutrition was established in memory of Frances M. McNally (Doctor of Science Acadia, 1943), founder and first Dean of the School of Home Economics at Acadia. The scholarship of $1345 may be awarded annually on recommendation of Nutrition and Dietetics to either a superior senior student or to an Acadia graduate proceeding directly to first-year graduate study in nutrition or related areas.

Frank H. Mailman Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship

The Frank H. Mailman Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a continuing student who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Preference will be given to a student from Annapolis County. Mrs. Doris M. Bent, a friend of the University, established this scholarship endowment in memory of her husband.

Frank J. Humphrey Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year, New Brunswick

The Frank J. Humphrey Scholarship of $1280 ($320 a year for up to four years) was endowed by the late Mr. F. J. Humphrey of New York City.

Frank V. and Zella Parlee Anthony Memorial Scholarships

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year, International student

The Frank V. and Zella Parlee Anthony Memorial Scholarships (2) of $1335 each are provided through the generosity of the Canadian Club of Boston of which Mr. Anthony once served as President. He graduated Bachelor of Science in 1923, and his wife, Zella, Bachelor of Arts in 1922. Mr. Anthony was an eminently successful businessman in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and later in Massachusetts where he provided long and dedicated service to Acadia. The scholarships are awarded annually either as entrance or in course awards with strong preference given to citizens of the United States.

Franklyn Bovyer Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year, Prince Edward Island

The Franklyn Bovyer Scholarship of $340 annually, endowed by the late Mr. Franklyn Bovyer of Bunbury, Prince Edward Island, is to be awarded to a qualified entrant.

Fred C. Manning Scholarships

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year

The Fred C. Manning Scholarships. Renewable entrance scholarships of $2500 (3), $1500 (6), $1000 (2) and $500 (1) and non renewable scholarships of $500 (50) are awarded annually in memory of Mr. Fred C. Manning (1891 1959), industrialist, public benefactor and eminent Nova Scotian. They are made possible by his generous provision of funds to Acadia University.

Freda N. Wales Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Community Development, Kinesiology, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Freda N. Wales Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Kinesiology and the Head of the Department of Community Development to an individual who is a resident of Nova Scotia, who has completed at least two years of a college or university program, and who wishes to pursue a program specializing in outdoor leadership at Acadia University. The scholarship was established in 1982 by friends and colleagues of Freda Wales (B.Sc. McGill) in memory of a lifetime of dedicated service to mankind along with a deep commitment to the advancement of outdoor education and all outdoor pursuits.

Frederic H. Sexton Scholarship in Engineering

Scholarship of up to $1,135 | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Applied Science, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year

The Frederic H. Sexton Scholarship in Engineering. An endowed scholarship has been established in memory of Frederic H. Sexton, C.B.E., founder and for forty years President of the Nova Scotia Technical College. It will be awarded to the final-year engineering student with the highest record in the course at Acadia and who commences full-time studies at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Engineering.
