You can take a leave of absence from your studies if authorized by the institution and if the leave is no longer than 150 days. You can find more information on taking a leave of absence by visiting IRCC’s website.
To take a leave of absence from your studies, you must make an appointment with an immigration advisor. The advisor will share all necessary information about taking a leave and will refer you to the Registrar’s Office to attain an official letter authorizing the leave. You can request this letter later when you apply for your Post-Graduate Work Permit, as any leave from studies must be explained to an immigration officer.
It is important to note that you cannot take a leave that exceeds 150 days. If you do not resume your studies within the 150 days, you must either:
- Change status (that is, change visitor status or worker status) or
- Leave Canada
