Marissa graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 2014 with a MSc in Psychology. In her role at Acadia, Marissa provides oversight and management of day-to-day operations of Accessible Leaning Services. She also assists students by providing advice related to disclosure and self-advocacy.

Gillian completed her BA from Mount Allison University in 2013 and has over 10 years of experience working in disability related fields. She is often the first point of contact for students who are looking to register or receive more information about Accessible Learning. As the Accessibility Resource Facilitator, Gillian assists students in identifying academic accommodations, and advising related to disclosure and self-advocacy. Gillian also works with students to apply for the Services and Equipment Grant and accessing note takers, assistive technology, and other supports.

Emily Duffett

Coordinator, Work Integrated Learning

Emily graduated from Acadia University in 2013 with her MA in Sociology focusing on barriers to employment for persons with disabilities in Nova Scotia. In her current role, she coordinates the Work Integrated Learning Program to support student employment opportunities for students with disabilities at Acadia. She provides education/workshops on work readiness, helps students to develop career goals while connecting the goals to what is being learned in the classroom, and partners with campus and community employers to facilitate subsidized work placements.

Coordinator, Exam Operations

Caleb completed his Honours in Sociology, minoring in English, at Mount Allison University. Working at Acadia since 2021, Caleb recently finished two-years as an Enrolment Advisor, helping incoming students navigate the university's application process to attend. As the Coordinator of Exam Operations for Accessible Learning Services, he ensures your test writing experience with Accessible Learning is comfortable and that your accommodation needs are being met. Caleb is committed to removing barriers that impede test performance for students with learning differences, and acts as a liaison between professors and students to make this possible.

Kate Johnstone

Kate completed her BFA and MEd at Simon Fraser University, and has a certificate in Applied Disability Studies. With over a decade of experience across the field of Student Affairs, Kate has a passion for supporting student success during post-secondary; and specializes in supporting academic skill development and learning strategies. Kate works out of OneStop and works closely with Accessible Learning Services, and is responsible for a caseload of students with accommodation and accessibility needs. She is also responsible for Tutoring Services, the Peer Success Program, and supporting accessibility initiatives and compliance beyond student academic accommodations. As a self-described nerd, she loves to research and develop evidence-based programs, acting as a resource for staff and faculty looking to improve accessibility at Acadia.
