International Students

The Wong International Centre supports students from over 50 countries who study at Acadia. We provide services, programs, and events to help you get started at Acadia and thrive in the community.

Advising and support

Dozens of students stand in front of the Wong International Centre, holding flags of several nations.

We provide non-academic advising on many topics. Whether you need help adapting to a new country or some advice on your income taxes, our staff are here to provide you with support. Some examples of advising include:

  • Immigration: if you have questions about your study permit, visa, ability to work in Canada, etc.
  • Personal matters: if you are struggling with your studies or mental health and you would like direction or support.
  • Advocacy: if you encounter a negative experience and need to discuss it with a staff member.
  • Settlement: if you require support settling into campus and community life.
  • Food insecurity: if you need support with purchasing groceries and/or where you can find culturally relevant food.

Please note that we cannot advise you on academic topics such as registration, fees and payments, etc.

To book an appointment with the International Student Advisor, email janet.harnum@acadiau.ca or visit us at the Wong International Centre.

Events and Activities at the WIC

The Wong International Centre (WIC) offers international students a “home away from home”. It was launched in 1997 with the generous support of Gene D. Wong ('49), Acadia’s first graduate of Chinese descent, to provide support and information for Acadia’s many international students. The Centre offers wifi, a chill room, and a kitchen where you can cook your favourite foods from home. It is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Our team also hosts events throughout the academic year, ranging from cultural experiences to a fun cookout. Follow us on Instagram to stay up-to-date on the latest events. You can also book the Centre to host an event of your own.
