Acadia among the Best in Canada
Acadia University has been named one of the top undergraduate schools in Canada by Maclean's magazine in its 20th annual University Rankings issue, released today and set to be on newsstands tomorrow.
The Maclean's rankings placed two Atlantic universities in the top three positions in the primarily undergraduate category. Acadia ranked in second place. Mount Allison ranked first and University of Northern British Columbia rounded out the top three.
"The Maclean's rankings are a leading source of information for students and their families as they determine which university will be the best fit for them," says Ray Ivany, Acadia's president and vice-chancellor. "We believe Acadia has consistently ranked among Canada's best universities because of our outstanding faculty and our intense focus on meeting the individual needs of students as we help them succeed academically and in life."
In the 20 years that Maclean's has published its annual comparisons, Acadia has been in the top three 18 times despite changes to the evaluation methods. Acadia consistently ranks above the national average for key student satisfaction elements such as faculty-student interaction, active and collaborative learning, and supportive campus environment measured in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
The results follow Acadia's impressive showing of top marks in the Globe and Mail's University Report, where Acadia placed first in 6 of 17 categories with A level grades. These include:
- student/faculty interaction
- teaching
- class size
- technology
- environmental commitment
- satisfaction with town/city
"The continued success of Acadia University in the Maclean's ranking is a testament to the commitment of the university to its academic programs and overall student experience," said Jon Cottreau, president of Acadia's Students' Union. "Based on feedback from the students at our institution, I am not at all surprised that Acadia University has placed very highly again this year."
