Acadia mourns Dr. Ming Guat Lau

Acadia is mourning the loss of Dr. Ming Guat Lau, who passed on May 19, 2025 at the age of 80.

After earning his PhD at Oxford University, Dr. Lau joined the Acadia community in 1983 where he taught in the school of engineering until his retirement in the late 1990s. During his time at Acadia Dr. Lau inspired countless students, who affectionately called him “Heavy Ming.” His legacy at Acadia lived on beyond his own teaching; Dr. Lau’s son also attended the Acadia School of Engineering.

His impact on Acadia and its community will be remembered fondly. To read more about Dr. Lau’s life and legacy, read his full obituary and share your condolences with the community. Donations in his name can be made to Symphony Nova Scotia.
