Acadia recognized in international advertising competition

Acadia University has won two merit awards in the 25th Annual Educational Advertising Awards.

Acadia was awarded a merit in the New Media category for our online television channel AcadiaTV. Developed by Communications and Marketing, AcadiaTV produces video features on faculty, students, and alumni and is designed to tell the Acadia story to a broad online audience. Created in 2008, AcadiaTV has topped 120,000 views in the last 12 months. It was in the top five of 150 entries in the New Media category.

Acadia was also awarded a merit award in the poster category for "Inspiration - Surround yourself with it." The poster was developed by Communications and Marketing staff for use in recruiting. It features an aerial view of campus and information relevant to prospective students. There are three versions for use in three markets - Canada, International, and Nova Scotia. The poster placed fourth out of 125 entries.

"These awards reflect the skill and creativity of Acadia's communications team," said John MacFarlane, vice-president of Advancement. "We know our team produces good work, but it is gratifying to see how well we measure up against some of the biggest institutions in North America, and internationally."

Sponsored by the U.S.-based Higher Education Marketing Report, the Educational Advertising Awards program is one of the largest educational advertising awards competitions in the world. This year, more than 2,000 entries were received from more than 1,000 schools from the U.S. and several other countries, including Canada, Australia, and India.

Other institutions recognized with awards this year include Yale University, Stanford University, Purdue University, and Johns Hopkins University. In Canada, only Acadia, Carleton University, Wilfred Laurier University, Vancouver Island University, and SAIT Polytechnic were award winners.

Judges for the Educational Advertising Awards include a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals, and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.

This is the first time Acadia has submitted material to this competition.
