Celebrating warmer days ahead at the Mid-Winter Feast

The Acadia community gathered to welcome the warmer days ahead at the Mid-Winter Feast last week.

The traditional Mi’kmaw gathering celebrates the fact that the worst of the winter is over, and we are heading for longer days, warmer temperatures, and to give thanks for blessings of life, health and sustenance.

Elder Dr. Gerald Gloade explains that “it’s sort of like the Mi’kmaw version of Groundhog Day.

Darlene Peters Copeland (Indigenous Student Programming Advisor) says she was honoured that Dr. Gerald Gloade shared his knowledge and wisdom through his presentation. She’d also like to thank everyone who participated in the feast, from the two Elders, Dr. Lorraine Whitman and Dr. Joe Mike for the opening prayer song and drumming, to all the students, staff, alumni, faculty, and community members who came out.

“And a big thanks to the caterers for a fantastic feast!
