Conservationist honoured

Ducks Unlimited Canada honoured long-time volunteer and Acadia alumnus Hugh Fairn (’52) for his commitment to wetland conservation by dedicating the Sheffield Mills Marsh in the Annapolis Valley to him on Aug. 23, 2013. Fairn has been a DUC supporter since the late 1960s and spent time as a director on the DUC board. Joining him at the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the site are: left, Arthur Irving (’52), DUC volunteer since 1976 and former DUC president in 1986 and 1987; Fairn; past DUC director Joe Hickman, QC; and John Waugh, former eastern regional manager of DUC and retired engineer who has been heavily involved in all DUC wetland projects.
