Acadia University is moving its official first day of Winter Term classes to Wednesday, January 12 to allow students to write exams on January 10 and January 11 to make up for those postponed in December due to widespread power outages. High winds ripped through the Annapolis Valley and much of Nova Scotia during an overnight storm on December 14, knocking down trees and downing power lines. In the Wolfville area, students were without access to power, their online learning tools, and the library.

"Although it creates complications to change dates, it is only fair to allow students to be prepared to write their exams," said Dr. Tom Herman, Acadia's Vice-President, Academic. "This storm and resulting power outages were outside our students' control. We need to accommodate them and make this work for everyone on campus. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation."

The change will mean that students who had December 14 exams postponed will write on January 10; and those who had December 15 exams postponed will write on January 11. Those exams will be written at the same time as the original schedule - morning exams in the morning and so on.

The last day to add a course for second semester has been extended to January 21 to accommodate the changes. Fees for second term will be due on the first day of classes, January 12. Residences will open as previously scheduled, January 9.
