Acadia University announces mandatory vaccination requirement for varsity athletics

A view of the Stevens High Performance Centre and Raymond Field on a bright morning.

Following discussion with other members of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS), Acadia University announces that student-athletes and associated staff who travel with the teams will be required to be fully vaccinated in order to participate in varsity sports competitions in the upcoming academic year. This decision is being made due to the competition requirements associated with varsity sports in which student-athletes and team staff are required to travel between campuses across the Atlantic region, including across the Nova Scotia-New Brunswick border. While arrangements are being made to fast-track team travel across the provincial border, anyone who is not fully vaccinated would be required to self-isolate upon returning to Nova Scotia.

Acadia continues to work with the AUS and member institutions to ensure that the return to play for varsity sports is conducted in a manner that is safe and effective for all student-athletes, coaches and team staff. Further details will be announced at a later time, including information regarding the presence of spectators at sporting events.

Acadia is looking forward to the return of our Axewomen and Axemen teams to competitive play in the upcoming season.
