Sing Until You Have No Voice 

In celebration of the life Sydney (Syd) Nicole Taylor, 21, of Halifax, Nova Scotia who tragically left us on May 7, 2013 while with her Acadia University classmates in Mexico the weekend before their Convocation.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Syd was the daughter of Barry Frank Taylor (Halifax, N.S.) and Sheri Culberson Taylor (Tampa, Florida). She spent her earliest years in Long Island, New York and St. Petersburg, Florida, and early school days in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving with her father to Halifax in 2005. While attending Halifax Grammar School, she channelled her energy, intelligence, and talent into academics, athletics, music, and friendships. At Acadia, she found fulfillment by performing her music, playing sports, making A’s, and even more friends. Sydney completed her degree with Honours in Political Science and Sociology.

Sydney is survived by her uncles David (Beth)Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama; and Jamie (Beth) Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia; cousins Alex, Jamie, and Grey; and many loving and close relatives in the Culberson and Conley families from Georgia and Florida.

The family would also like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Ray Ivany, President of Acadia University, and Acadia staff and students for their humanity and leadership in responding to this tragedy and to the many friends of Sydney, and of the family, who have been so supportive and comforting at this time of great loss.

Friends and family can join us in a celebration of Sydney’s life at the St. Mary’s Boat Club (1641 Fairfield Road) Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 8, 2013  from 4 – 9 p.m. (music, open microphone, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar). Please bring your stories, songs, and memories of “Syd the Kid.”
