Speaker bio:

Michelle Coleman is a Nova Scotia photographer who primarily focuses on landscape and portraiture and is known for her unique vision and stunning results. While photography is Michelle’s main pursuit today, she has been teaching sociology for Acadia University since 2001. As well, she is an Acadia alumna, completing three degrees, her last in 1995. In 2016, Michelle published a book titled, Portraits of Nova Scotia, which featured some of her favourite landscape images from around the province. The same year she teamed up with a local photographer and organized “Friends for Syria”, an initiative using their photos to raise funds to purchase Arabic-English dictionaries for new Canadians from Syria. Michelle is a contributing photographer to the Valley Faces of Business Directory published yearly by the Rotary Club. As well, she completed a project for the Nova Scotia Museums to photograph and catalog thousands of museum artifacts. In 2018, Michelle was recognized in the Nova Scotia legislature for her contributions to photography. In 2021, Michelle began teaching smartphone photography.
