USPORTS Men’s and Women's National Basketball Final 8 Championship

The number-eight seed Acadia Axemen will open the 2018 U SPORTS Final 8 Men’s Basketball Tournament at 8 p.m. AST on Thursday, March 8, 2018 against number-one ranked Carleton Ravens at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, N.S.

Acadia is hosting this year’s championship, and alumni are encouraged to come out and support the Axemen! Our volunteer committee and Honourary Chairperson Steve Pound (’72) look forward to seeing you, so don’t be shy! Join us, and get ready to Stand Up and Cheer when the Axemen take to the floor.

Here’s a full schedule of events starting Thursday, March 8 and going right through to Championship Sunday:

Thursday, March 8

10am Acadia Basketball Memorabilia

  • Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame (10am – 9:30pm – Free Admission)

12pm Quarter-final #1

  2pm Quarter-final #2

  4pm Alumni Pre-game gathering (The Auction House, 1726 Argyle Street – Acadia Hoop House)

  6pm Quarter-final #3

  8pm Quarter-final #4 (Scotiabank Centre – Acadia Axemen opening game vs. Carleton Ravens)

Friday, March 9

10am Acadia Basketball Memorabilia

  • Nova Scotia Sports Fall of Fame (10am – 5pm – Free Admission)

10am Basketball Excellence – Regency Room, Prince George Hotel

  • Reception and presentation on men’s basketball with Len Hawley (Development),

Kevin Dickie (Athletics Director) and Kevin Duffie (Coach)

12pm Alumni Shoot Around – Scotiabank Centre

  • Join fellow Axemen Alumni for a shoot around on the court from Noon-1pm. Bring sneakers!

Saturday, March 10

10am Acadia Basketball Memorabilia

  8pm Consolation semi-final game – Acadia Axemen vs. TBD

Women’s Basketball Championship

Meanwhile, the Acadia Axewomen are competing in the 2018 U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Championship hosted by the University of Regina in Regina, SK. They open the tournament on Thursday, March 8 against the Saskatchewan Huskies at 8 p.m. CST (10 p.m., AST).

Ian Murray (’88), Executive Director of Alumni Affairs, will visit Regina to cheer on our formidable women’s team and host a pre-game gathering Thursday, March 8, 5:30 – 7 p.m., for all Acadia alumni and friends at Earl’s Kitchen and Bar, located at 2606 28thAvenue. Please join Ian for this celebration to have a drink and some dinner before making your way to the game.  If you can only come for dinner, that’s okay. If you can only get to the game, we will see you there! Don’t miss this chance to cheer for your alma mater, get caught up with old friends and classmates, and Stand Up and Cheer for Acadia! 

As well, immediately following the Acadia Axemen game on Thursday in Halifax, The Auction House (Acadia Hoop House, 1726 Argyle Street) will live-stream the Acadia Axewomen’s game vs. Saskatchewan in Regina. All Acadia alumni are invited to gather then and cheer on the Axewomen!
