Happy Holidays to one and all! We asked: what makes the season so memorable? Here’s what our Advancement team had to say.
Sometimes learning happens 20 feet up a ladder, 30 minutes from campus with a 40-pound wooden box in one hand and a drill in the other. That’s where Zack Pate is on a fall afternoon: installing a bat box in Hall’s Harbour for the Annapolis Valley Bat Box Project. Launched in 2020 with fellow Acadia student Taryn Muldoon, the project is helping to house the tiny, flying mammals and collect data in partnership with a military biologist and university researchers, volunteers, the Canada Conservation Corps, high school teachers and students.

An enthusiastic crowd of Acadia alumni was on hand November 20, 2021 at The Auction House in Halifax to mark a wonderful in-person event and celebrate Acadia Alumni Association Board member and Axemen basketball star Ted Upshaw (’80) prior to his induction into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

To have a championship team, it takes great coaches, veteran leadership, buy-in from younger players, commitment to the program and a little bit of luck. Anyone who has ever been a student-athlete at the university level will tell you; championships are hard to come by. Student-athletes can spend four or five years at school and never play in a championship game. During the 2011-12 academic year, however, Acadia was fortunate to have three championship teams; in football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball.
