Etymologists work diligently to explain the origins of words and provide definitions that are as precise and timeless as possible. The English language, however, is a living thing, constantly evolving to reflect current realities. As time passes, words are co-opted and adapted for other purposes and the original meaning can sometimes be lost in a flurry of pop cultural hype.

Acadia alumnus Jim Prime (’69) is in self-isolation right now, like millions of people around the world. An accomplished and celebrated author, Jim has written more than 20 books during his literary career, is a former editor of The Atheneaum, and a regular contributor to our alumni magazine, the Bulletin. Here’s his tongue-in-cheek take on a day in the life of a self-isolator.
Many Acadia students are facing financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For some, challenges with rent, groceries, transportation, and lack of summer employment opportunities could threaten their ability to return to their studies in the fall.
