by Fred Sgambati (’83, ’85)

Winners have been announced in the 37th Annual Educational Advertising Awards competition, and Acadia’s Office of Advancement has earned top honours in multiple categories.

Acadia captured a Gold, two Silver, and two Merit Awards in this year’s contest. Winners were selected by a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals.

“This competition acknowledges the very best educational websites and digital content and marketing in North America,” says Vice-President, Advancement (Interim) Nancy Handrigan (’92). “The talented and dedicated people on our Advancement team work hard to develop diverse, engaging and visually appealing collateral across multiple channels to promote an immediate and enduring connection to Acadia. We always craft messages with our audience very much in mind and strive to communicate the benefits and value of the Acadia experience in everything we do. We’re delighted to share this good news story with members of the Acadia family and look forward to creating and offering even more appealing stories, video and social media content in the future.”

More than 2,000 entries were received from over 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools from all 50 United States and several foreign countries. Gold awards were granted to 410 institutions, silver to 256 institutions and bronze to 162 institutions. Our team won awards in the following categories:

Newsletter, The Honoree – Gold

The Honoree is a specialty publication that celebrates the many accomplishments and achievements of Acadia University’s Alumni Award and Honorary Degree recipients. The fall 2021 edition acknowledged and applauded the resilience and strength of character that has symbolized Acadia’s long history and informed our community’s current inspirational and collective response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Online Publications, Bulletin – Silver

The fall 2021 digital edition of our alumni magazine, the Bulletin, featured Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) as its overarching theme. Published twice annually, the new digital product has received tremendous support from our alumni community and, under the leadership of editor Fred Sgambati (’83, ’85) and in collaboration with colleagues in the Alumni Affairs Office, Development and the Acadia Alumni Association, the Bulletin has expanded its scope and reach to deliver an immersive and visually appealing experience for readers across the full spectrum of our audience.

Annual Report, The Giving Report 2021 – Silver

Donor support makes dreams a reality at Acadia, and The Giving Report 2021 was a wonderful way to acknowledge the many alumni, donors, friends and foundation partners who step up, in so many ways, to ensure our students have a transformative educational experience.  A great example of this was the incredibly successful Campaign for Acadia, which exceeded its $75-million goal by nearly $12 million, amassing a remarkable $86.8 million to support four pillars of endeavour: Transform, Inspire, Discover, and Build. We couldn’t have done it alone and The Giving Report 2021 was our way to say thank you!

Social Media Content, ‘Giving Tuesday 2021’ – Merit

In November 2021, members of Acadia University’s Advancement team collaborated on a six-part Giving Tuesday and follow-up Thank You Thursday social media campaign that highlighted food insecurity issues on campus and offered donors the opportunity to obtain matching funds from the J & W Murphy Foundation. Weekly posts appeared on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram leading up to Giving Tuesday on November 30, 2021, encouraging people to support Acadia’s efforts to minimize food insecurity issues for students on campus.

Special Video, ‘Irving Oil – A Natural Balance launch’ – Merit

Members of the Acadia community were pleased to gather for a virtual celebration in November 2021 in honour of the 20th anniversary of the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens as well as the publication of the new book, A Natural Balance. For 20 years, these incredible spaces have become an important part of the student experience at Acadia – providing an architecturally brilliant environment in which to connect, learn and understand our natural world. A video to celebrate the anniversary and illustrate the splendour and beauty of the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens was created and we were thrilled to collaborate with the Irving family on this wonderful project.
