Acadia celebrates 177th birthday!

Acadia University celebrated its 177th anniversary on November 13, 2015 during Founders’ Day on the Wolfville, Nova Scotia campus. Faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community were invited to share in the occasion and mark the official opening of the Wu Welcome Centre at Alumni Hall, a wonderful gift to the University from the Wu family of Hong Kong and now available for use by Acadia’s campus constituents. Featured speakers at the event included University President Ray Ivany, University Chaplain Tim McFarland (’92) and University archivist Pat Townsend.

The 103rd running of the annual Bulmer Race also took place that day, this time on the track at Raymond Field, with seven teams and two individuals participating. A total of $400 was raised for Acadia’s Global Brigades, which hosted the event. Pictured above at the cake-cutting ceremony for Founders’ Day are: (left to right) Acadia’s Vice-President, Advancement, Dr. Rod Morrison; University President Ray Ivany; former President Dr. J.R.C. Perkin; Acadia Students’ Union Vice-President Academic Fallis Thompson (’15); former President Senator Kelvin Ogilvie (’63); and Wolfville Mayor, Jeff Cantwell.
