Letter to the Editor of the Bulletin:
Here is the cruise photo taken in March of this year in the eastern Caribbean aboard the Carnival Victory cruise ship.
We all met originally as floormates in Chase Court in the early ‘70s. Following graduation, we stayed in close touch the old-fashioned way, without the benefits of social media.
Sharon Anderson (’74) is now in Toronto, having moved there from Calgary in the late 1990s; I ended up in Calgary; Heather MacKenzie (’73) is in Moncton; and Peggy Tibbo-Cameron (’76), Grace (Muggah) Moores (’74) and Patsy Thomas (’74) are in Nova Scotia. We made a point of getting together whenever there was an opportunity, usually over summer holidays when those of us from away were coming home. The ‘Acadia Girls’ weekend has now become almost an annual event.
Many years ago, probably in the mid-90s, we decided to plan a trip for the Girls at a point in time when our work, families and life permitted us an opportunity to travel. As three of the Girls are teachers, we needed to plan it around March Break in the school system.
We started talking about the trip in earnest in 2008 once those with children could get away. Heather had done a fair bit of traveling and suggested a cruise, then organized the whole thing!
As you can imagine, we had a fabulous trip and are now planning another within the next two years – perhaps Tuscany. Who knows? Thank heavens we have supportive spouses, significant others and children!
I can’t imagine my life without these wonderful ladies. We have been there for each other through thick and thin, which has been a godsend on occasion. Thank heavens we all chose Acadia as the place for our post-secondary education!
It is a marvelous institution with a wonderful inclusive environment that gave me the opportunity to make some amazing lifelong friends!
Sincerely,
Donalda MacBeath (’75)
Calgary, AB
P.S. I happened to have the Acadia posters from a recent campus tour with my daughter and threw them into my suitcase at the last minute!
