Alumna creates timely, artistic tribute

An Acadia alumna has created a tribute to a recently departed friend that honours not only her friend’s memory, but pays tribute to Canada’s veterans and those who have served in wartime. Karen Neal (’65) wrote to Ian Murray, Executive Director of Alumni Affairs and Advancement Strategy at Acadia, on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 to say that her university roommate, Brita (Stolz) Housez (’64) painted the poppy pictured here earlier this week. The artwork was inspired by Brita’s friend, Krystyna Rayski-Kietlicz, who passed away at the age of 91 in Wolfville on Oct. 26. Krystyna, who had a wartime connection, was the wife of earlier deceased Dr. Konstanty Rayski-Kietlicz, Head of the Acadia French Department during Brita's years at Acadia. Brita majored in French and had a great respect and affection for both Rayskis throughout their lives.
