The Acadia energy was alive and well in the west of Canada recently as Executive Director, Oonagh Proudfoot (’93, ’06), hit the road to visit with community and attend the U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Final 8 in Calgary with a quick pit stop in Edmonton.

Highlights of the trip were reconnecting with Brian Walling (’87) in Edmonton, Josh Mercier (’17) in downtown Calgary and Lou Delaney (’58) and Cal Annis (’57) in Okotoks with Cal arriving, as per usual, dressed head-to-toe in Acadia colours.

There was an opportunity for a small gathering of alumni and friends representing a span of 50 graduating years! Board director Robyn Bews (’97) had the opportunity to meet varsity rugby player Ebe Otoikhine (’25); former Acadia Alumni Association President Donalda MacBeath (’75), along with her husband Martin Mundry got to know Sheldon MacDonald (’16), Lauren Tibbo (’17), Willow Gedlaman (’19), and Dan Luton (’19) and Oonagh got caught up with recent alumni office staff members Fikayo Kayode (’22) and Thea Hart.

The pre-game meetups brought together a group of fun, proud, and spirited Acadia supporters, alumni and family alike, with nails painted on brand, foam hands and pom poms!

That energy carried into the games, with alumni continuing to connect throughout the tournament, including Oonagh’s chance meeting with Jaclyn Krucik (’09) and her family all dressed in plaid.

The Axemen gave the crowd plenty to cheer about in their three games, especially as they secured a strong win over the host Calgary Dinos.

The team’s appearance at nationals was a memorable time of connection, bringing alumni, family, and fans together for an unforgettable weekend of Acadia pride.
