Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner delivers inaugural Dr. Fred Gilbert Speaker Series lecture at Acadia

by Sgambati, Fred

The inaugural lecture in the Dr. Fred Gilbert (’65) Speaker Series presented by the Acadia Alumni Association featuring Acadia Honorary degree recipient Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner (’22) was held on Oct. 6, 2022 in K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre auditorium on the Acadia campus. The audience was comprised of students, staff, faculty, community members and politicians. Dr. Pörtner’s presentation was eye-opening, full of detail and examples relative to his topic, ‘Climate change is ocean change: a physiologist’s view’, and he participated in a lively Q&A session at the conclusion of his talk.

At the end of the evening, Dr. Pörtner was presented several gifts by University President Dr. Peter Ricketts and Executive Director, Alumni Affairs, Oonagh Proudfoot (’93, ’06), including a dream catcher honouring Mi’kmaq history month and this year’s theme of beadwork and the art of beading.
