Ottawa alumni welcome new President, learn about his vision for Acadia’s future

Hosted by Colonel (The Reverend) Barbara Putnam (’95, ’22) at the Army Officers’ Mess in Ottawa, ON, over 50 alumni representing six decades of graduates gathered on Monday, November 20, 2023 to meet Dr. Jeff Hennessy (’99), Acadia’s 17th President and Vice-Chancellor, and experience his vision for the University. Dr. Hennessy engaged the audience with humour and passion, and asked for their help in imagining what Acadia will look like when it turns 200 years old in 2038. “It’s not too far away,” he said, “and we need to start thinking now about what we hope and want it to look like.” Among the attendees were Acadia Alumni Association Board Director Natalie Irwin (’01), who welcomed guests and engaged the audience with questions for our new President. Stephen Larkin (’93) was one of the many attendees, and he presented Dr. Hennessy with a picture of the two of them from the mid-1980s when Steve was Jeff’s commanding officer in the Army Cadet League of Canada.

Pictured above with Dr. Hennessy, from left to right, are Angela Larkin (’91, ’01) and her husband Stephen, with the photo of Steve and Dr. Hennessy from their cadet days.
