Acadia alumni returned to campus June 23-25, 2023 for an All-’50s Reunion Weekend that was jam-packed with activities, information and fun!
A total of 61 alumni and guests attended, with nine classes being represented at the Reunion. Most recited their class yells during an Alumni Banquet in the Sheldon L. Fountain Learning Commons either in a group or individually on June 24, and also applauded Janet Kirkconnell (’56, ’58), who received the Acadia Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service for her unselfish and persistent dedication to the Sunday Music in the Garden Room concert series over the past two decades. Attendees also participated in a reception in the Wu Welcome Centre at Alumni Hall; a visit to the Acadia Farm and Acadia Farmers’ Market; Class Meetings; and a ‘Trip Down Memory Lane’ with Archivist Emeritus Pat Townsend on Saturday ahead of the Alumni Banquet. A Chapel Service Sunday morning was followed by a luncheon in the Garden Room at the Irving Centre that featured outgoing University President Dr. Peter Ricketts.
Several award winners were also acknowledged as part of the weekend’s festivities. The first to register was Mona Hennessey, Class of 1954. The Distance Award went to Lydia (Marshall) Bell, Class of 1955, from Toronto, ON, and the Reunion Cup was awarded to the Class of 1959 again this year.
We had a great time introducing our new all-decade format this year and look forward to hosting an All-’60s Reunion next summer. See you then!
