WCB appoints Acadia alumnus as Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of the WCB announced Jan. 11, 2012 the appointment of Acadia alumnus Stuart MacLean (’83) as Chief Executive Officer of the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) of Nova Scotia.

“After an extensive executive search that attracted interest from across the country, I’m thrilled to announce that Stuart MacLean is our new Chief Executive Officer,” said Chris Power, Deputy Chair.

“Stuart is a true safety champion with an unwavering passion for preventing workplace injury and helping those who are injured safely return to work. Under his leadership, we’re confident the WCB will continue its progress toward a safer Nova Scotia.”

MacLean has been with the WCB since 1986. His career spans a number of leadership roles across the organization, including assessments, prevention and claims management, culminating in his most recent position as Vice President of Service Delivery. He has served the organization as CEO in an acting capacity since August 2011.

As Chief Executive Officer, MacLean will guide the continued implementation of the WCB’s strategic plan, working together with many valued stakeholders and partners across the province.

“I am extremely proud of how far we’ve come and I’m confident about the direction we’re going,” said MacLean.  “As CEO I intend to continue working together with our partners to make Nova Scotia a better place to live and work by reducing the human and financial impact of workplace injury.”

MacLean holds a BBA from Acadia University and an Executive MBA from Saint Mary’s University. He is an active volunteer in the community and sits on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety.
