Acadia Pride: Transgender Day of Remembrance
November 20, 2024 (4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
Location: Wu Welcome Centre
Globally, November 20th is recognized as Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) and is a day to honour and commemorate the lives of transgender and other gender diverse people who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence. In addition to remembering those taken too soon, Transgender Day of Remembrance calls us to reflect on these often-overlooked injustices and reminds us of our shared responsibility to create a safe, accepting campus for all.
Acadia Pride invites members of our campus community to attend a Transgender Day of Remembrance event on campus from 4:00-5:00pm on Wednesday, November 20th at the Wu Welcome Centre. Folks are encouraged to drop in anytime between 4:00 and 5:00 to reflect on the significance of the day and write caring messages of affirmation to our Two Spirit, trans, and non-binary students and employees.
This event is followed by a closed space vigil from 5:00 to 6:00pm for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at Acadia. At the vigil, members of Acadia Pride will share remarks and will also be joined by special guest speaker Mica Daurie, founder of Transgender/Non-Binary Rights Advocacy Nova Scotia (T.R.A.N.S.).
