ALLways Learning Presentation - Sabbatical Showcase - Dr Alex Marland
November 28, 2025 (2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Location: KC Irving Environmental Sciences Centre Auditorium at Acadia University
Dr. Alex Marland, Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership presents "Party Politics and the Challenge of Representation in Canada"
What are the advantages and challenges of party affiliation for elected representatives? How do political parties help and hinder the ability of MLAs and MPs to represent their constituents authentically?
Join us for an engaging discussion featuring Independent MLAs Becky Druhan and Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin, alongside Dr. Alex Marland, author of the new book No I in Team: Party Loyalty in Canadian Politics. The conversation will explore how party structures provide organization, stability, and shared purpose, while also constraining independent judgment and responsiveness to local needs and what this means for democratic representation.
The Sabbatical Showcase is a monthly opportunity for faculty to share their research with campus and community. This program is a partnership with the Adult Lifelong Learning (ALL) group.
ALLways Learning series runs all fall and winter semesters on Friday afternoons from 2pm to 3pm in the KC Irving Centre Auditorium.
