African Heritage Month Starter Toolkit for Acadia Campus Community

Celebrating African Heritage Month

This toolkit provides Acadia employees with a starting point to celebrate African Heritage Month in their department, their unit, or with their fellow colleagues. We want to provide you with ideas, resources and support to create your own month-long programming in your department. Whether that’s adding articles and readings to your syllabus, or hosting a film screening, or sharing an exercise, there are a multitude of ways you can celebrate Black excellence and support an anti-racist workplace. The toolkit also boasts with nine exclusive Spotify playlists expertly curated by Mickey Russell, Human Rights Education and Response Advocate.

Cultural change happens when we all participate! Instead of waiting for others to create events, we want to support you to use your power to uplift and highlight the Living Legacies of individuals of African descent and Black Nova Scotians right here in the Valley. February will be filled with many celebrations and educational opportunities for the whole campus, your attendance is encouraged to create a safer campus community for everyone!

Are you wondering where to start? Want some more ideas or support on how to bring your event to life? Contact us at equity@acadiau.ca
