Art Gallery Kicks off 32nd Annual Acadia Art Exhibition
200 art connoisseurs came in from the cold on Saturday night to see a collection of pieces created by community members, faculty, staff, alumni, and students at the 32nd Annual Acadia Art Exhibition.
From January 17 until March 12, visitors will see the gallery walls lined with pieces in mediums from rug hooking to water colour, and styles from folk art to abstract. Some pieces capture the beauty of our scenic surroundings in the Annapolis Valley, others offer a commentary on the climate crisis.
In her opening remarks, gallery Director and Curator, Dr. Laurie Dalton, shared a quote from French Impressionist, Edward Degas: “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” And this exhibit is a great opportunity for our community to see through the eyes of those who we live and work with.
University President, Jeff Hennessy, also gave remarks at the event. He spoke to the importance of being creative and making art to get through tough times, and how humanity has always turned to creation to get through our darkest days.
The Acadia Art Gallery is open from Tuesday-Sunday, 12-4, and admission is free.
