Help us prevent wildfires

Please keep in mind there are restrictions currently in effect across Nova Scotia to help prevent wildfires.

There are restrictions on travel and outdoor activities in wooded areas with walking and hiking trails off limits unless appropriate permits are in place. On Acadia's campus, the wooded areas of the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens and Woodland Trails will be closed until further notice. The remainder of the Botanical Gardens will remain open for visitors. Clear signage will be posted to indicate which areas are closed.

A provincewide burn ban is also in place. The ban applies to open fires such as campfires, bonfires, brush fires, fires in chimeneas and any other fire that is not enclosed and uses wood as the fuel. Non-woodburning devices like charcoal and gas barbeques and gas stoves can be used, following manufacturer’s instructions.

These measures are vital to protecting our people, communities and environment. They will be in place until the province gets enough rain to significantly improve conditions. More information and updates are available on the Government of Nova Scotia website.
