Meet The Acadia Counselling Centre Team Part 3

As the third and final installment in our series on the Acadia Counselling Centre (you can read part 1 and part 2 in our newsroom), we're pleased to introduce you to two brand new members of the team!

Meet Allison Farmer, Clinical Therapist

Q: How would you describe your counselling practice?

A: I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.

I believe that therapy is most meaningful when it is collaborative, and I work alongside clients to understand their individual experiences, strengths, and goals. Grounded in a belief in each person’s capacity for growth and change, I strive to provide a supportive space for clients to explore challenges, build insight, and move toward the changes they hope to make in their lives.

Q: What do you love most about the job?

A: The opportunity to connect with people in a meaningful way and witnessing the growth that happens when individuals feel supported, understood, and empowered.

Q: What's one piece of mental health advice you would give to every student?

A: You are enough, just as you are.

Q: Where do you feel most at home on Acadia’s campus?

A: My office at Dennis House and Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens.

Q: What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?

A: Getting outside with my dog!

Meet Nigel Tinker, Clinical Director

Q: How would you describe your counselling practice?

A: I’m a collaborative, strengths-focused, and trauma-informed therapist and clinical supervisor.

Q: What do you love most about the job?

A: I’m action-oriented, i.e., I like to do things. I also like to help people. This allows me to do things that help people every day.

Q: What's one piece of mental health advice you would give to every student?

A: Listen to your body. It understands more than you know about what’s right for you in any situation. Pay attention to your intuition, your felt sense(s).

Q: Where do you feel most at home on Acadia's campus?

A: I’m new the Clinical Director position at the Acadia Counselling Centre, but I am not new to Acadia. I’ve attended Acadia as both undergraduate and graduate student. Campus on the whole feels like home for me, but I’m most comfortable around the Counselling Centre and my office in Willet.

Q: What's your favourite thing to do outside of work?

A: I really enjoy writing and recording music, processing and building things from wood, swimming, and time with my family.
