Now we know the place they’ll go: new childcare centre announced for Acadia

Kids who love playing construction can get excited about a new childcare centre that will soon be built on the Acadia campus. Their parents and families can get excited about the new 104-space early learning and childcare centre that the provincial government announced today.

“We are so pleased to share this great news,” says Jeff Hennessy, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University. “Our campus community has been working toward this day for a long time, and being able to tell you that it is happening is a joyous occasion.”

“I’m not sure who is going to be more excited: the children when they get to attend, or their families who will benefit from this much needed new childcare option.”

A childcare committee of Acadia staff and faculty have been working to bring more childcare spaces to the campus and the community. With spaces and programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, the centre will give families in Wolfville and area easier access to the childcare they need.

The new centre will be built on university property at the top of Highland Avenue with construction anticipated to start next spring. The project is a partnership between the Province and Acadia. The Province is set to build the facility and Acadia will engage an operator for the centre.

The centre is part of the Province’s broader efforts to expand access to child care, supported through the Canada–Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
