Remembering David Colin Patrick “Dave” Sheehan

Longtime Acadia employee, Dave Sheehan, passed on February 10, 2026 at the age of 63.

Born in Halifax and a beloved member of the Annapolis Valley community, Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, curiosity, and creativity enriched all who knew him.

Dave’s professional legacy at Acadia University, where he worked for 20 years, is enduring. In 1990, he established the University’s first video production studio and was a founding member of the Acadia Institute for Teaching and Technology.

“Dave was a true, detail-oriented professional who captured much of the life of Acadia University through videography during a period of time when the internet, laptop computers and mobile computing was reshaping education, commerce and society,” Conor Vibert (F.C. Manning School of Business) reflects. Dave was a decent, honest, kind, and creative colleague with whom I was fortunate to have shared great work experiences for almost 20 years.”

Outside of his work, Dave actively contributed to the Annapolis Valley community, from coaching soccer to supporting local causes such as Valley Hospice, and was known for his love of the outdoors, music, and family.

The thread that connects Dave’s personal and work life is the kind of person he’s remembered as. Terry Aulenbach (Open Acadia) says that while Dave started as a colleague, he became a friend. “He was supportive when you needed someone to listen and advise. He was a kind, sincere, and respectful person who gave of himself. He was a true friend and a compassionate human being. The world needs more people like Dave.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at 11:00 am on February 13, 2026 at Festival Theatre.
