Remembering Dr. Stanley Fisher
Acadia mourns Dr. Stanley Fisher, who passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.
After over three decades (1977-2010) as a Professor of Woodwinds in Acadia’s School of Music, he was appointed as the university’s very first Professor Emeritus.
Before coming to Acadia, Dr. Fisher followed his passion for music from his hometown of Windsor, Ontario to the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves Band, and stages all over the world as an internationally recognized clarinet soloist. He earned his Doctorate in Woodwinds at the University of Michigan.
"Dr. Stan Fisher devoted his life to the calling of education, sharing his knowledge and passion with generations of students,” says Dr. Christianne Rushton (Director, School of Music).
“As an educator, his greatest legacy is found in the lives of the young musicians he helped inspire—many of whom are now proud to be teaching in Acadia’s School of Music. His legacy demonstrates the continued impact of his work as his students pass his knowledge and passion for music onto the next generation, allowing us to learn from, reflect on, and continue building on the work he began.”
While the family will not be holding a formal service, they invite friends, family, and former students to reflect on their memories of Dr. Fisher and share their condolences through the Dana L. Sweeney Funeral Home.
