Wheelock entrance under construction will welcome students in the fall

You may have noticed increased activity this week at Wheelock Hall as construction gets underway on a major renovation to the building’s entrance and exit. The project includes a new stairwell providing improved access to the dining hall and is designed to enhance accessibility, traffic flow, and the overall dining experience for students.

Please note the following temporary changes during construction:

  • The west entrance facing Chase Court is now closed and secured with safety fencing and signage.
  • Bike racks have been relocated to the east (parking lot) side
  • The east entrance facing Highland Avenue remains open.
  • Washrooms will continue to be accessible.

The Acadia Bookstore will remain open throughout the project. Its entrance has been temporarily relocated to the north (front) side of the building, accessible via the middle set of double doors. Onsite signage has been posted to direct visitors.

Acadia Dining Services will continue to provide catering services during construction. Scheduled events have been relocated to Fountain Commons and other campus venues.

The construction schedule is being expedited to ensure the dining hall reopens in time for returning students this fall.

Originally planned in 2016, the project is now moving forward thanks to funding from Acadia’s food service provider, Chartwells, as part of their food service agreement with the university. Construction is being carried out by Roscoe Construction, a local company with extensive experience working on the Acadia campus.

This project reflects months of collaboration between Acadia Facilities Management, Events Acadia, and Acadia Dining Services. Once complete, it will significantly enhance the dining experience for students and visitors with more improvements to come. Stay tuned for updates in the months ahead.
