Acadia University's Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the 2019 Acadia Sports Hall of Fame inductees. This year's list of esteemed inductees includes the 1996 Men's Soccer Team; Soccer Axemen Michael Cino ('95) and Jay Robinson ('99); Rugby's Andrea Burk ('06), Soccer Axewomen Jennifer Andrews ('98) and Angela Morrison ('96); Football Axemen Stuart MacLean ('83) and Ernie Salamone ('84); and Builder Tracey McGillivray ('87).

"This is an exceptional class of inductees representing our Axewomen and Axemen teams in a number of different sports. I'm very excited to include the John MacIntyre soccer weekend in September as part of the celebration, along with Homecoming Oct. 17-20," noted Kevin Dickie, Executive Director of Athletics and Community Events.

"Our Acadia Athletics program takes so much pride and responsibility in connecting our present with our past. These events are very special to us, as are the latest individuals, builders and teams joining the Hall of Fame," Dickie said.

The Acadia Sports Hall of Fame recognizes individuals or teams that have made a significant contribution to the University's athletics program, to Acadia University, and to the community. This year's inductees will be honoured at two separate events.

Cino and Robinson, along with the 1996 Men's Soccer team, will be recognized on Friday, Sept. 6 at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Sheldon L. Fountain Learning Commons. The Sports Hall of Fame luncheon will take place Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 also at the Sheldon L. Fountain Learning Commons starting at 10:00 a.m. during Acadia's Homecoming Weekend.

Robinson and Cino were awarding-winning strikers for the Axemen. Cino, who played from 1992 to 1996 with the Axemen, was a two-time AUAA (AUS) All-Star, in 1994 and 1996, and a second team CIAU (U SPORTS) All-Canadian in 1994.

A two-time CIAU (U SPORTS) All-Canadian – once while playing for Acadia in 1998 and then with Saint Mary's in 2000 – Robinson played for the Axemen from 1995 to 1999 and was a three-time AUAA (AUS) All-Star in 1997, 1998 and 2000.

The 1996 Men's Soccer team captured Axemen Soccer's first conference title in its history. Finishing the regular season with a 5-3-5 record, the third-place Axemen picked up a 1-0 win over Moncton in quarter-final play to move on to the semis, where they topped StFX 1-0. In the AUAA championship game, the Axemen handed the host Dalhousie Tigers a 1-0 loss after penalty kicks.

Six Acadia alumni will be inducted into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame on Oct.17.

McGillivray, who will be inducted as a Builder, is a former Axewomen Volleyball player who was actively involved in volleyball for almost two decades as an athlete, coach and referee.

Tracey went on to play for the Acadia Axewomen volleyball team from 1983-1987 while in pursuit of her Computer Science degree. In her junior year at Acadia, she founded, managed and coached the Acadia Men's Club Volleyball team.

Now retired from Rogers Communications as Vice-President of Information Technology, McGillivray has been instrumental in supporting the annual Acadia Women in Sport Luncheon that has provided athletic scholarships to deserving female student-athletes.

A two-time CIAU (U SPORTS) All-Canadian, MacLean wore Acadia's red and blue as a linebacker from 1980 to 1983. Named as an AUAA (AUS) All-Star three consecutive seasons – 1981, 1982 and 1983 – MacLean was a member of the 1981 National Championship-winning Axemen.

Salamone was a defensive tackle from 1981 to 1984 and was not only a member of the 1981 National Championship football squad, but also a two-time CIAU (U SPORTS) All-Canadian and two-time AUAA (AUS) conference All-Star.

Burk will take her place among the greats after an illustrious career in university rugby. A two-time All-Canadian in 2004 and 2005, Burk was named the AUS Most Valuable Player in the same years. She was also Acadia's Female Athlete of the Year in 2004-05 and 2005-06. After her university career, Burk represented Canada at the 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup and at the 2017 Women's Rugby League World Cup. She made her debut in Canada's 2009 tour of France.

An AUAA (AUS) All-Star goalkeeper in 1996, Morrison helped lead the Axewomen to a conference title that season, during which Acadia set a national record by allowing no goals against in the regular season.

Morrison graduated in 1996 after five years of varsity women's soccer. She returned to the Valley in 2009 to become first technical director and then director of coaching and player development for the Valley District Soccer Association. She was hired for one season as the Axewomen's head coach in 2009.

From 1994 to 1998, Andrews was a dominant striker with the Axewomen soccer team. Named a CIAU (U SPORTS) All-Canadian in 1995 (First Team) and 1996 (Second Team), Andrews was also an AUAA (AUS) All-Star in 1994, 1996 and an AUS Most Valuable Player in 1995.
